THE BOLD RENOVATION OF A HOUSE WITH LITTLE LIGHT
Inspired by some Granada Arab baths from the 11th century, the lack of light in this apartment has been solved thanks to the use of skylights and curtains as mobile partitions of the spaces.
This apartment, in a dark housing block in Granada, has been converted into a house full of resources that provide light to current and flexible spaces, thanks to the work of GRX Arquitectos. The main challenge was, therefore, to facilitate the entry of natural light, for which the interior partition walls were demolished as much as possible and horizontal cylindrical perforations were made to introduce natural light into the new spaces.
As a consequence of this constructive experiment, the final need arose to resolve the control of the new lighting according to its uses at different times of the day. The architecture studio chose to include blackout curtains that function as mobile partitions and, depending on their position, allow or prevent the passage of light. Another resource to differentiate the environments was the use of color, which puts personality in the different uses.
