History repeats itself
When Granada’s Gran Vía was constructed at the end of the 19th century, part of the ancient Islamic city was destroyed. Today, that very same area has become cultural and artistic heritage, and many of its noble buildings have been altered by trends and insensitive renovations.
This project focuses on the recovery of original frescos, coffered ceilings, and hydraulic tile flooring in a set of historic offices, which had previously undergone a renovation that installed electrical and climate systems without regard for the building’s character.
The intervention embraces visual clarity and conservation, using a neutral white tone to highlight the original architectural elements. Additionally, materials from the previous renovation were creatively repurposed: floor coverings were transformed into reception countertops and meeting tables, and doors removed from earlier partitions were reused as furniture pieces.
