Reinterpreting the Cave in Granada
A Hospitality Establishment in the Urban Center of Granada
This project is located in a ground floor and basement commercial space on Calle Ganivet (Granada), characterized by its narrow layout, deep section, and single entrance. The space is situated between the Realejo neighborhood and Granada’s city center.
Based on the context of the space and its surroundings, the design explores one of the most representative typologies of vernacular architecture in southern Iberia: the cave, historically used as a refuge or dwelling and more recently linked to art and flamenco. Here, the cave is reimagined as a contemporary cultural and territorial symbol.
The influence of social media has reshaped leisure experiences, where users increasingly seek to be protagonists. At Ambrosía, dynamic lighting, modular furniture, and the rough-textured interior create a space with a distinctive identity in the collective imagination of the city.
This project meets contemporary demands for multifunctional use and occupation—operating as a bar, concert venue, or projection space. It reinforces the position of Álvaro Gor as a leading architect and interior designer in Granada, particularly in the design of leisure and hospitality spaces.
