Rehabilitation of the Cubero Farmhouse (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
Located in the heart of the Huéscar region, the Cubero Farmhouse stands as a silent testament to Granada’s rural history. At the foot of the imposing Pico de la Sagra, this rehabilitation project is part of a vision that seeks to build bridges between the memory of the place and a new way of inhabiting the landscape.
Traditional farmhouses in the area have for centuries been self-sufficient centers of agricultural production, organized around functional, sober architecture perfectly adapted to the environment. The Cubero Farmhouse is no exception: its centuries-old walls and its strategic position among regenerative crops speak to a close relationship between architecture and the fertile soil of the Granada plateau.
The project, currently underway, combines sensitivity towards the traditional with a contemporary look. The new cyclopean concrete façade, reinterpreting the textures and rotundity of the old stone walls, integrates in a subtle and respectful way with the landscape. This intervention materializes a clear will: not to imitate the past, but to dialogue with it from the present.
In this sense, the Cortijo Cubero is aligned with the design philosophy of architecture linked to the territory, the rural landscape, natural rhythms and human life in community, with a strong commitment to material and social sustainability. Thus, the rehabilitation not only seeks to preserve the character of the place, but also to rethink it, providing it with new possibilities through honest, essential and deeply rooted architecture.
In connection with regenerative agricultural practices, the project not only considers architecture as a container, but as an active part of a new way of inhabiting the countryside, more conscious, balanced and resilient. The Cortijo Cubero does not only become a rehabilitated building, but a living piece of the landscape, capable of telling past stories and, at the same time, imagining more harmonious futures.
