Urban Intervention in the Public Space of Granada
A Hill for Memory
Carlos Cano, through his music deeply rooted in Andalusian tradition, used his lyrics to express a strong political and social commitment to the Andalusian people, their landscapes, and cultural identity. This project is devoted to honoring his legacy from the perspective of sustainable urban design.
The space dedicated to his memory seeks to reinterpret how public space is understood, which is often limited in its capacity to foster habitability and social interaction. The proposal distances itself from urban models that tie the citizen experience to consumption in commercial venues, and instead proposes a new paradigm where presence and environmental enjoyment take center stage. This vision reflects the approach of Granada-based architects committed to creating inclusive and accessible urban spaces.
The Carlos Cano Memorial Space is conceived as an open platform for spontaneous performances by street musicians—symbolized by an olive tree and a stone as core elements. The design proposes a green plaza that invites citizens to reconnect with their environment, offering an alternative form of leisure that challenges consumer-driven logic.
This project demonstrates how cultural initiatives can revitalize and transform public spaces for the common good, celebrating memory, creativity, and collective well-being.
