Access and social use of the rock paintings of the Piedra del Letrero. Huescar (Granada)
The project is located in La Piedra del Letrero, a mystical space in the surroundings of the Sierra de Segura, next to the peak of La Sagra. This place, with cave paintings more than 5,000 years old, has been the scene of cultural transformations and today hosts the pilgrimage of Las Santas Alodía and Nunilón.
Located in the Altiplano of Granada, today a UNESCO World Geopark, the site stands out as a key point in the connection between Andalusia and the Levant. Scientifically discovered in 1915, it was the first discovery of prehistoric rock art in Granada and in 1998 it was included in the declaration of World Heritage Site.
The intervention seeks to fully integrate into this ancient context, eliminating contemporary formal or aesthetic features through the placement of uncut stones, creating access and observation spaces with minimal impact. The result is an architecture that disappears into the landscape, where even the original vegetation is maintained, reinforcing the notion of deanthropization and absolute respect for the natural and cultural environment.
